About the Institution
Established in 1926, Prabhat Kumar College, the oldest and one of the most reputed institutions in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, proudly celebrates 100 years of academic excellence. The college offers UG and PG programmes in Arts, Commerce, and Science, with 24 Honours courses, 5 postgraduate programmes, and 20+ short-term skill-based courses. It also hosts two recognized research centres in Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & Humanities, affiliated with Vidyasagar University, offering Ph.D. programmes. Through NSS, UBA, and Science Forum units, the institution actively serves the community. Recognized with CPE status and funded under DST-FIST, the college proudly commemorated its Centenary in 2025.
About the Department
The Department of Chemistry began its journey in 1947 with the introduction of the I.Sc. course. In 1985, the department initiated the Honours programme under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University, and in 2019, it further expanded by launching the Master’s programme.
At present, the department is supported by experienced faculty members and well-equipped laboratory facilities. Over the last five years, a significant number of students have pursued higher education at several prestigious institutions.
The department regularly organizes seminars and conferences to familiarize students and faculty with cutting-edge research. Students also actively participate in cultural and value-based activities.
Since the 2019–20 academic session, faculty members have been actively engaged in research across diverse areas of Chemistry under the College’s Research Centre in Natural Sciences.
About the conference
CHEMFRONT-2025: Frontiers of Chemistry in Biology, Physics, and Materials is a national conference organized by the Department of Chemistry, Prabhat Kumar College as part of the institution’s Centenary Celebration.
The conference brings together scientists, academicians, researchers, and students from across the nation to deliberate on interdisciplinary advances at the frontiers of chemistry. It serves as a platform to explore the role of chemistry in linking biological systems, physical sciences, and advanced materials, while fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and research institutions.
